ABOUT ME

My name is Paris Laras,

I'm a Game Designer from Athens, Greece.

Currently I'm looking for work in the Game Design field and hoping to hone my level, narrative and gameplay design skills alongside a creative team.

WHY GAMES

I got into game development because I believe that games are a unique art form that can deliver to its audience a truly unique experience through play.

Weaving together player and story through gameplay is truly an amazing feat to behold and is something I deeply pursue through my work.
The main focus of my research and development revolves around creating gameplay mechanics that are engaging and work in parallel with story-delivery systems and narrative threads.

I constantly strive to learn all I can about the very intricate but inherently creative process of game development. A personal goal of mine is to familiarize myself with and deeply understand every component that goes into the games we make.
From technical art to VO to camera controllers, I honestly find it all fascinating.

PAST

My past adventures include:

  • An academic education in Computer Science & Programming

  • The penultimate Indie experience in creating, organizing and developing with my own small indie team, Floating Island Studios, as an acting game designer, producer and other hat-wearer. From Expos, to a Steam Release and a mountain of failed projects we did it all!

  • Experience as a freelance level designer across various PC, mobile & 2D/3D projects.

  • Production and release experience across Unity, GMS2, and UE4.

  • Release and integration experience with SteamSDK & Steamworks, GooglePlayGames & PlayStore and others..

  • Experience as a freelance website developer using core HTML,SCSS & JS.

  • The study of music theory, a musical diploma as well as several personal music endeavors in the form of writing, recording as well as performing as a guitar, bass player & vocalist.

  • An amateur attempt at cinematography and all that "director" stuff.

  • I've also been building and repairing computers and laptops since I was a teenager, and I still hold a personal fascination for computer hardware and integrated systems.

These, alongside a large library of games to draw from as well as a sincere love for games are the things that motivate me and shape the developer I am today.

Furthermore, I'm constantly looking to the future, taking on projects and filling my free time with things that I feel will make me better designer and programmer. Staying up to date with the field is something I take (maybe too) seriously, watching as many GDC talks as I can and closely observing and researching the industry's latest developments.

basically this:
"I love making games and I'll be damn good at it".

I hope you and I, anonymous reader, get to cross paths some day and talk games.

     I'm looking forward to it.
